Power dense DC-DC converter modules and Sine Amplitude Converter enable top system performance and downsizing for the most challenging power use profiles

Vicor high-density power modules using our proprietary Sine Amplitude Conversion (SAC™) technology reduce switching losses using a soft-switching approach. This technology enables a smaller transformer and packaging, and reduced weight for the industry’s fastest transient performance.

Vicor will present traditional DC-DC converters are limited by switching frequency, which causes power losses, and the heat generated affects reliability

HV conversion to SELV – Supply to dynamic, motor driven loads

Presented by Haris Muhedinovic, Automotive Senior Field Applications Engineer, Vicor

Traditional DC-DC converters are limited by switching frequency, which causes power losses, and the heat generated affects reliability. Increased HV bus voltage and limited switching frequency dictate the design of bigger and heavier magnetic components (transformer and inductor) increasing the size and weight of the DC-DC converter. These devices are typically unable to symmetrically handle bidirectional power, so the amount of power regenerated to the HV battery is limited.

A more efficient solution is to use a high-switching frequency converter with soft-switching topology. Vicor can optimize HV to SELV conversion using Sine Amplitude Conversion (SAC™) methodology. Using SAC is more efficient and can reduce package weight and size for the DC-DC converter. The Vicor solution can also provide bidirectional power conversion that is symmetrical, maximizing the power regenerated into the battery in applications like active suspension.
